Surfing
Costa Rica is home to the famed Witch’s Rock and Ollie’s Point, both world class breaks that are every surfer’s dream. Their awesome waves and their inaccessibility make them both favorite destinations for surfers all over.
Located in Santa Rosa National Park, the easiest and quickest way to these waves is a boat ride across the Gulf of Papagayo. This practically guarantees a non-crowded beach and an unbelievable experience.
We are happy to offer all boats for this trip and count with all the necessary permits from the parks department for legal and safe entry into the park.
Beginner surf lessons are usually taught at Prieta or Iguanita beach at low tide, depending on the conditions.
Witch's Rock
Playa Naranjo, in front of the legendary Witch’s Rock, is a beautiful, kilometers-long beach that is frequented by numerous types of wildlife. This is a 45-minute boat trip from pick-up.
This hollow beach break is best surfed at high tide, and features strong open breaks & clean groundswells. This is a spot for advanced surfers only.
Witch’s is best to surf about 3 hours before high tide, while Ollie’s is best two hours before and two hours after low tide.
Ollies Point
Playa Portrero Grande, or Ollie’s Point, is a bit to the north of the other beaches, and had its waves immortalized in the movie Endless Summer II. This is a one hour boat trip from pick-up.
Ollie’s is a righthand point break that’s best surfed a low-mid tide. This site is accessible to all levels with small swells, and intermediate to advanced when the swells come in.
